David Bourner, volunteer researcher at BBHS and author of two local history books, handed over a cheque for £1600 to Basildon Heritage last week.
Both of his books, 'The Rise and Fall of Laindon High Road' and 'When Basildon Was Built' have both sold extremely well and, according to David, much of their success was down to Basildon Heritage.
The huge collection of resources held at the Heritage Centre, which includes photographs, maps and newspapers as well as many other documents proved to be a very valuable asset when it came to undertaking the research for both books.

On Thursday 14 August 2025 a new Blue Plaque was unveiled for Producer Greg Smith, who grew up in Laindon.
Smith was responsible for producing several British comedy films during the 1970s as well as the Buddy musical in the West End and on Broadway.
