We are a group of like-minded volunteers who believe that our culture and heritage is central to a sustainable community. We aim to preserve our past for the enjoyment, interest, and benefit of future generations of Basildonians.
We do this by:
Collecting memories from people who have lived in the area for many years
Preserving photographs, documents, and other keepsakes, which are shared through exhibitions held in libraries and other venues around Basildon
Giving talks to groups interested in local history, both at The Green Centre and at external locations
Maintaining our office and ongoing displays at The Green Centre, Wat Tyler Country Park
In addition to our public exhibitions and talks, we also provide access to a growing collection of research materials, including historical maps, archived documents, and research booklets. These resources support local historians, researchers, and members of the public who wish to explore Basildon’s heritage in greater depth.
OUR OPENING TIMES
Basildon Heritage meets most Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am–1pm, and Saturdays from 10am–4pm. The office is closed on Bank Holidays.
